JOB PURPOSE: Promotes the professional and clinical development of Wingate Healthcare employees. Develops and facilitates clinical competencies programs in Wingate facilities and provides facility based clinical support and mentoring. Responsible for the oversight and development of educational programs to promote best practice and quality outcomes. Support Nursing Administrative operation by performing various duties to ensure overall compliance with nursing and company policies. Provides direct oversight of the scheduling coordinator to ensure that sufficient staff is scheduled based on the clinical requirements of the residents.


  • Serves as the Infection Preventionist (Infection Control Nurse) for the facility (see Infection Preventionist Job Description).
  • Responsible for orientation of new direct care staff.
  • Responsible for the Learning Management System, RediLearning training and compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Licensed Nurses meet mandatory educational requirements (BLS, Basic IV Training, CVAD Training, Annual Competencies).
  • Responsible for ensuring that direct care staff meet mandatory educational requirements (annual competencies, BLS encouraged).
  • Assist staff in assessing patient/resident status related to medical issues, social, psychological and spiritual issues.
  • Provide support to patients/residents and families in dealing with clinical issues and challenges. Assist in resolution of concerns and grievances voiced by either party. Provide guidance/support to staff, residents and families as required.
  • Assist in monitoring staffing to ensure that sufficient staff is scheduled based on the clinical requirements of the patients/residents by direct oversight of scheduler.
  • Participates in weekly staffing meetings.
  • Conducts tours for perspective admissions and families.
  • Ensures that staff abides by the principles and techniques of Infection Control and Safety by providing an environment that is clean, safe, and comfortable for the residents.
  • Ensures that staff complies with policies and procedures, rules and regulations as written. Disciplines staff as needed per policy.
  • Provides in-services/training to staff as needed related to clinical tasks, education and safety.
  • Responsible for POC orientation. ( assign PIN)
  • Evaluates emergency and disaster situations and offers assistance as needed.
  • Investigates accidents and incidents related to patients/residents, staff or visitors and provides first aid and follow up as indicated. Ensures interventions are appropriate and address root cause.
  • Assists with investigations of abuse allegations, and reports any allegation immediately to the DNS /Administrator for follow up.
  • Shares on call responsibilities with other supervisory staff.
  • Assumes administrative responsibility for the nursing department in the absence of the director.
  • Performs daily rounds on all nursing units in facility.
  • Provides oversight of care provided in the facility; ensures that all rules and regulations are in compliance.
  • Provides guidance and support to staff.
  • Assists with development and implementation of appropriate plans of action for identified deficiencies. Make written and oral reports /recommendations to the Director as necessary /required concerning the operation of Quality Assessment Performance Improvement Program.
  • Attend the monthly Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee Meeting to report on all data collection results from monthly audits and the selected plans of correction.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of educational programs revolving around all components of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Guidelines.
  • Creates and executes needs assessment for training and education to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and employee performance.
  • Provide hands-on clinical orientation and ongoing instruction to licensed and unlicensed personnel.
  • Ensure that educational curriculum meets or exceeds state, federal and accreditation requirements; plan and conduct state and federally required in-service programs.
  • Coordinates employee health program (immunizations, flu shots, physical exams, etc.)
  • Assists in resolving concerns and grievances in the facility.
  • Committed to working with residents and families to develop and implement strategies that promote person-centered care.
  • Actively supports Wingate's commitment to providing "5 Star" service on all quality objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Reports to the appropriate managers any known or suspected violations of policy and procedures, regulations or standards of conduct.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


  • Graduate of approved nursing school required. BSN preferred.
  • Current registration as an RN in the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in long term care.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid/Joint Commission guidelines required.
  • Must be computer literate. Knowledge of EMR required.

SUPERIVISION OF OTHERS: Direct oversight of the Scheduler. Oversees all staff in the facility under the supervision of Administrator and DNS.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
